NED Nama was originally started by Sabahat Ashraf/iFaqeer, NED Computer Systems, Batch ‘87-88, triggered by the planning and preparations for the Convention of NEDians on September 8, 2007 in Silicon Valley. You can read the first post by him on this blog here. And here’s a note from him:
Salaam,
It is wonderful hearing from so many NEDians!
My name is Sabahat Ashraf and you could say that I am the “Mudeer-e-Aala” (Chief Editor) of the NED Nama. I am based in Silicon Valley. After years of various efforts to organize NEDians in various ways, I had switched to just collecting information on what various NEDians and NEDian groups around the world were doing. You can see the list I/we maintain at:
http://pakistan.wikia.com/wiki/NED_Alumni
[Please do edit/update/etc. if you have any new information you want to add there.]Over the last year or so, a bunch of NEDians who are active online had been talking about creating a blog for, by, and about NEDians. By way of introduction, some of the people I am talking about include:
- Owais Mughal is now Chief Editor of Pakistaniat.com; he’s based in the US Midwest
- I (Sabahat Ashraf/”iFaqeer”) am a blogger who has a history of editing and writing in Pakistan and the US; I used to edit The Teenager, Pakistan, even before I joined NED; in the recent past, I have written for Spider in Pakistan and maintain a blog at http://iFaqeer.blogspot.com
- Shahran Asim is involved with a Chicago-based radio program which is also podcast on the ‘Net (www.abnchicago.com); he’s now based in the New York Area
- “Tee Emm”, Tariq Mustufa, is one of Pakistan’s first bloggers that I know of and he also has a long record of writing about technology for the biggest names in Pakistan’s print media (Dawn, Spider…)
- … and so on
Of course, all of the above and graduates of NED and I am not even discussing the well-established careers, Masters’ degrees, and so on that they also have.
The folks listed above are all from Batch ‘87 and onwards, but what finally triggered starting the blog was the involvement of the senior alumni that lead the NEDians’ Association of Silicon Valley, and their plans to hold the 2007 Convention of NEDians here in Silicon Valley. You can see their profiles at: http://convention2007.nedians.org/html/member_bios_RiazHaq.html
Lastly, the gentleman who has been the moving spirit behind this and the previous two conventions that have been held (Houston and New York/New Jersey) is Moin Ahmeed. There’s a profile of him at the link above, too.
You will see Moin Saahab, Riaz Haq Saahab, Safwan Shah, Farid Durrani, Aboobaker Asghar, and the other elders write and engage on the blog, too.
And, of course, we have NEDians chiming in and writing, commenting, discussing, etc. from all over the world (Germany, the US, all over Pakistan, the UK, … you name it) and from all ages engaging here, too.
So please do jump in, contribute and let us know what needs to be here. It’s your blog!
Sabahat.

The name of this site is inspired by the Aligarhnama created by Qais Mujeeb, out of Hyderabad, Dakkan.
