LinkedIn Group for NEDians
Posted by Sabahat (iFaqeer) on August 9, 2007
Most readers will most probably heard of the social networking phenomenon. There are quite a few websites out there now that help people convert real-world or informal contacts into an organized network that can be used to reach people you might need to reach.
LinkedIn is one such site, and the one I have seen most commonly used in Silicon Valley and other professional, networking, and Internet circles. I initially joined LinkedIn when I was invited by a fellow technical writer. Along the way, I have found old friends, passed on referrals for jobs, made introductions for people who were looking for a job or looking for someone to hire. The site now also has a job posting service. And the advantage with a job posted on that service is that it is posted by an individual, not a company, and when it is posted, the system already tells you how far the person posting it is from you in the network and who to ask to refer you!
Basic membership is free, and it takes less than a minute to sign up and join my network.
LinkedIn also allows members to identify themselves with the respective alma maters, professional organizations, employers, hobbies, and so on. Several of us have discussed and a few have even followed up and tried to request them to set up a group for NEDalumni. One such request that I know of was pending when I got the following email on the “NEDianz” list.
I’m sure that many of you have a profile at the professional networking website – www.Linkedin.com. LinkedIn now allows people to create groups. So, I created one for NED Alums. The primary advantage is that you will be able to communicate directly with everyone who is part of the group. Also you will be able to search within the group for vital contacts and, hence, network.
I would like to invite all NEDians to join the group. Please visit https://www.linkedin.com/e/gis/2862/008C9413A2E7/ to join. Please forward this to other NED alums and students as well.
Thank you!
Regards,
Asim

Folks, do join the LinkedIn group. As Asim says, the advantage to joining the group is that you can then, for example, directly link to anybody in that group; otherwise, you have to know a person’s email address or request someone to introduce you.
That’s wonderful work by Asim! We’ll look forward to more input from him and his batch!
In terms of other social networking sites, there are also at two groups devoted to
NED on Facebook, and quite a few on Orkut. I am not sure what we have on Myspace. Please send in information for any or all of those if you can.

Assalam-O-Aliekum,
I am surprised that are no comments posted from my batch fellows yet !!!
Come on wake up folks…..
