Map of NED–Annotated

Posted by Sabahat (iFaqeer) on August 10, 2007

It is amazing what one can do with technology. But that’s such a pita huwa statement, no? It definitely sounds that way…until you run into something that’s really amazing. Here’s one I still find mindboggling–and I am user knerd par excellence:

Just a few years ago, most of us alumni would have no clue what our alma looks like in the present; what new buildings have come up, how big the Girls Common Room has gotten, and so on. Maybe one visit in decades to show the significant other, or the kids where you went to college–but how many of us have done even that?

Enter Wikimapia.

Most of us have used Maps.Google.com, right? And some have even used websites that use the database behind Google Maps to give you directions, and so on. But Wikimapia is an attempt to take that database and have everybody mark up every inch of our planet with what is where. [And do click on it to get a full-window view.]

Hi Sabahat. Thanks for posting this. The cricket ground looks so perfectly laid out and surveyed from the top. Fountains’ green-blue bottom shows blue paint Or may be old water :) Thanks for the annotations too.

Great view of NED but just to correct, the Lending Library is wrongly mentioned, they are the solar energy cells. the lending library is right next to the reference library building i.e. reference library has only one building and the one right next to it is the lending library.

Anyways brought back memories of the past. Thankyou Sabahat bhai for posting this.

Must poiint out the Gym, the war zone (BQ and J-2 hostels)and the the qibla-e-awal of all those deeewaney parwaney lining in the corridors outside the GCR before points time… the initiator of so many poetic fairy tales from the university

    Sabahat,
This is good. I’d suggest getting an annotated map and a few pictures of the old historical campus on Strachan Rd.

Good work Sabahat bhai. I’d just like to point out that you’ve incorrectly labeled the Car Park as National Bank in the map. The National Bank is the building directly perpendicular to the BCIT department – hope you can spot it easily.

Iss fountain mein students baarish mein aik doosray ko phainktay they

    AUDITORIUM:
This is center of all activities.
Yeh wohi auditorium hai jahan baray baray muqarrir aaiy laikin saab hai NED kay Hooting students kay samnay Dhair ho gai.

Jis nay NED kay auditorium main Mechanical kay Mailay crowd kay samnay Taqreer Kar liee uss nay kahee bhi taqeer kar li.

Concerts, Dramas , National Song competitions , declamation contests, mushaira,
Painting Exhibition, movies to the likes of Apollo 13, Jurassic Park, cricket matches on the big screen.

    MOBILE BASE STATION:
This is very close the famous broken wall between KU and NED where we used to go KU from this path. This used to be an entrance used by the students to attend the Student functions such as debates, festivals, etc.

Just before we left, the rangers had made a post there to stop students entering to KU from that gate.

Great Job !!! Nice to see not only N.E.D but whole overview of my city Karachi, Pakistan. I wish we had a webcam on the campus to see the view live (life) via satellite…

    Aoa,
It ia such a great effort by you.
I remember when I was first introduced by google earth the first thing I tried to locate on the map of karachi was my very own NED:)and it didnt took me too long just because of the “fountain” and the army plane at the students’ gate:)
    Anyways, Thanks for this again:)
