Convention Update…and a piece of Sad News

It’s the morning after Convention 2007. Those of us involved with it are exhausted but inspired. Looking forward to NEDians working together. We will be putting photos, videos, and updates here.
But Batch ‘87-88, particularly Computer Systems Engineering, is reeling from the loss of one of our own. The following email came in around 11:19 am, California time. I knew Irfan, from our class had been struggling with a chronic illness for years, but it was only after a phone from Raghib Hussain, a class mate of ours that I realized the email was about our classmate.
انّا للہ و انّا الیہی رجیعون
Asalamu Alykum dear brothers and sistes,
Irfan Ahmed (used to work at Cisco) has passed away last night.
Inna Lillahe wa inna Ilaihe Rajiun. May Allah Subhana wa Ta’la have mercy on him and give him Maghfirah and give patience to his relatives and friends.
Funeral prayer would be offered at Masjid Noor(Santa Clara) after Zuhur prayer today and will be taken to Livermore graveyard for burial afterwards.
Please make Dua for him and try to attend the funeral prayer and burial.

This is very sad news indeed as the passing of a young NEDian Irfan coincided with NEDians Convention 2007. Though I never had the pleasure of knowing Irfan, I offer my heartfelt condolences to Irfan’s family and all his friends.May Allah bless his soul and give his family the strength to bear this tremendous loss.

I could not believe the news when I got this email from Sabahat. And I still don’t believe that our Irfan ‘Lamba’ has left us.
Back in the NED days, me, Ahmed Sajwani, Imran Sajid and Irfan made plans and toured the major cities and northern areas together. It was a fun trip, and I still remember all the fun and fights we had. I also remember the dinner at his Taya’s place. I always made fun of him as he had to drink 30 glasses of water each day.
In US, I visited him in San Diego and spent a day, he used to work for Qualcomm those days. Then I visited him in the Bay area some 5-6 years back after he survived from his illness. We drove through the whole town and visited Zulfi. That was my last meeting with him, although we kept contact. A call or an email, here and there. He remembered me when my father passed away, and when my daughter was born.
One thing that I praised the most about him was his belief on Allah. Whenever I talked to him regarding his illness, he always said it is from Allah. He never ever said things like why he had to face this and not somebody else. He was happy with what Allah gave him.
Please pray to Allah for his Maghfirah.

Sad news indeed. There was another news about an on-campus NEDian getting electrocuted to death while rehearings for his final year project.
May Allah shower His mercy on both of them.
It is really sad to hear about this news. May his soul rest in peace and be blessed by ALLAH Subhan-Wa-Ta’ala.
Indeed a sad news. May Almighty Allah forgive his sins, place him in Paradise, and provide his family enough strength to bear this loss.
May Allah bless him and place him in Jannah and give sabr to his family.
