This report is a bit dated and we apologize for that, but in an effort to catch up with events and happenings at NED and to provide a flavour for campus life, we decided to provide this report here anyway.
A seminar entitled “From Brain Drain to Brain Gain” was held by the Constructive Student’s Network (CSN) in the NED Auditorium on May 28, 2008 . The Chief Guest was the Vice Chancellor NED University, Eng. Abul Kalam. CSN collaborated with NED University, Redsky Organizers, Navitus and FLP for this event.
We had an audience of 300, including students from NED and other participants from different NGOs like PYA, PYO, KYO etc. in our seminar. Judging by the feedback received from students participating in the seminar, the topic was one that helped them better understand their own importance to their country and thus contributed to an understanding of how to make their own future career and personal decisions.
The speakers in the experts panel were:
Cap. Amjad H Faizy
Captain Faizy is CEO of Institute Of Human And Safety Factors, and is a NASA-trained, former captain of PIA Planes and a motivational speaker.
Sumair Abro
Mr Abro is a facilitator and consultant at Navitus. Sumair’s expertise comprises understanding local cultural dynamics of Pakistan and adapting contemporary management practices to varied audiences. As a trainer / consultant, his areas of key interest and expertise include: selling skills, sales competency building and assessment, customer service, coaching, culture and operational audits. His assignments have included clients such as Unilever, Telenor, Novartis Healthcare Division, Shell Pakistan, ENI Pakistan, Thal Jute Mills and Mobilink.
Abdullah Butt
He is the president of Association of Call Centres & Operators (ACCO) Pakistan, which is the only body that is aggressively promoting Pakistan’s call centre opportunities on international and domestic fronts.
Dr.Ismail Sheikh
Dr Sheikh has BDS & FRFP degrees from one of the best universities of England in London. He is currently a professor at Altamash Dental Institute .
The panel discussion was followed by a question-and-answer session that served to help clear many misconceptions of the students.

Dawn reports:
KARACHI: Book fair at NED varsityKARACHI, Jan 10: A fair of books at the NED University of Engineering and Technology will begin from Jan 12. Twenty-eight prominent book sellers and publishers will participate in the three-day fair. I can’t find anything about this on the NED website. If you can provide any more information (times, names of publishers, what kinds of books, what kinds of prices, etc.), please email me. And I wonder if any alumni can contribute thoughts, memories, pictures, of book fairs past.
